Homemade cookies only maintain their freshness and chewiness for up to three days. After that, they will begin to harden if not stored properly. If the cookies are exposed to air for too long, the moisture will be sucked out of them.
Proper storage
Don’t worry, there is a solution! First of which is to store the cookies in an airtight container. This also includes plastic or reusable sealable bags; just be sure to get the air out completely before sealing them.
The white bread hack
Before sealing your container or bag, place a slice of white bread inside. This helps because the bread is high in moisture, so the cookies draw it from the bread as it dries out, staying soft and chewy for longer. How much longer? Your cookies can now be left at room temperature for up to a week, and they’ll stay as fresh and tender as the day you baked them. Also, be sure to switch your slice for another when it dries out.
