A Practical Guide to the RICARDO Digital Stand Mixer

Need a helping hand in whipping up baked goods on the weekend? Our new digital stand mixer is here to make it easier! An essential and versatile tool, it can stir, whip, beat and knead any batter and dough; but it also has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Here’s your ultimate guide on using this small appliance to its full potential.

How it works

A stand mixer works by using a motor to spin a mixing attachment, such as a chef’s whisk or a dough hook, placed inside a mixing bowl. When the mixer is activated, the motor powers the attachment to rotate and thus thoroughly and evenly mix all the ingredients in the bowl. The machine’s speed can be adjusted to suit the task at hand, whether it’s to beat eggs or mix a cake batter. The bowl itself remains stationary as the attachment moves, making sure the mixing process remains efficient without you needing to exert any manual effort (unlike with a hand mixer).

The key features

DIGITAL DISPLAY:

The stand mixer boasts an LED digital control panel that allows you to turn the machine on and off, adjust the speed setting, and start and stop the mixing, and it also includes a timer.

SPLASHGUARD:

The machine comes with a transparent splashguard. This not only keeps flour from blanketing your face and kitchen surfaces when you accidentally set the mixer to full speed, but also allows you to see how your mixture’s consistency looks. It also includes a pour spout, making transferring to another bowl or into a baking dish a simple, mess-free process.

The mixing tools

CHEF’S WHISK:

The chef’s whisk is designed to whip, aerate and incorporate air into your ingredients. It’s great for beating egg whites to stiff peaks, whipping heavy cream, whisking certain doughs and batters until fluffy, or creating volume in a recipe. Use it in desserts like angel food cake, sponge cake, meringue, frosting and marshmallows.

FLAT MIXING PADDLE:

The mixing paddle is used to stir, mix, cream, shred and beat ingredients/mixtures thoroughly and uniformly. It’s ideal for mixing cookie dough, cake and other batters. You can also use it to make chunky guacamole, mashed potatoes and vegetables, shred warm chicken or pork, etc. The flat paddle also includes flexible silicone edges, ensuring it doesn’t scratch the inside of the bowl as it rotates and scrapes the bottom and sides.

DOUGH HOOK:

The dough hook is designed to mix and knead dough for bread, pizza, focaccia, sticky buns and so on. It takes on the tasks of kneading, stretching and folding, which help to develop gluten in the dough that gives bread its structure and texture. This definitely saves time when compared to kneading dough by hand!

The attachments (sold separately)

BLENDER:

The blender attachment takes the stand mixer beyond what it was originally made to do. Attach it to the machine’s top port and it can blend the likes of soups, smoothies, frozen drinks and more. It’s made of glass, etched with measurements, has sharp stainless steel blades and is dishwasher safe.

SLICER & GRATER:

This accessory connects to the stand mixer’s front port, and comes with three barrel attachments for slicing, grating and shredding. They’re sharp and strong enough to handle fresh vegetables, hard and soft cheeses, and more.
