Preparation
- Preheat the oil in the deep fryer to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, combine the flours, sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the centre and pour in the egg and buttermilk. Blend until smooth.
- Slide a wooden skewer into the centre of each sausage. Coat well in the batter, one at a time. Fry two sausages at a time, until the batter is golden brown, about 5 minutes. Watch out for splattering. Keep warm while you repeat with the remaining sausages.
- Serve with mustard or ketchup.
Note
Kids love mini corn dogs. Prepare them by cutting sausages into thirds before coating with the corn batter.
