Ingredients

  • 2 tsp instant coffee
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) hot water
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) coffee or plain yogurt
  • 2 2/3 cups (400 g) unbleached all-purpose flour (see note)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups (370 g) sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 5 eggs

• Coffee Frosting

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) hot water
  • 1 1/2 cups (340 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (520 g) icing sugar
  • 1 cup (110 g) thinly sliced almonds, roasted
