Food and Song Pairings to Get You Into the Holiday Spirit

While preparing the holiday turkey or whipping up a few cocktails while waiting for your guests, you’re likely humming “Jingle Bells” or some other holiday tune. To get you even more into the holiday mood, we’ve put together a fun and festive playlist with songs that are in harmony with various holiday recipes. Happy listening!

1. Santa’s Little Helper X “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”

After preparing your holiday feast, you deserve a little cocktail made with cranberry juice, rum, Amaro Siciliano and almond liqueur as a reward (a bit like the kiss that mom gave Santa Claus). Prepare and enjoy it while waiting for your guests to arrive.

2. Blueberry-Fig Chutney X “Blue Christmas”

Elvis may have the blues, but we simply can’t wait to host this year with a selection of canapés and appetizers. In homage to the King’s melancholy song, whip up this sweet and tangy chutney with a bluish hue and serve it with a plate of cold meats and cheeses.

3. Cream of Green Vegetable Soup X “O Christmas Tree”

“O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How lovely are thy branches!” the song goes. The green of a fir tree is so iconic, we integrated it into a spinach soup topped generously with sour cream and sprigs of rosemary, or feta cheese and pomegranate seeds.

 

4. Holiday Turkey Roast (The Best) X “All I Want for Christmas is You” 

Mariah Carey said it best: We don’t care about presents underneath the tree, all we want for Christmas is...turkey! Okay, maybe that’s not exactly what she sings, but on our table we absolutely need this bird. Ricardo particularly likes to serve a roast turkey and change the stuffing each year. This version is one of our best to date.

5. Pork Meat Pie X “La Tourtière”

A bit of tourtière with that? The classic Québécois dish, a staple of the holiday season, is the namesake of this fun French-language song by La Bottine Souriante. Whether you call it tourtière or meat pie, we won’t argue about it; it’s the holidays, after all!

6. Loaded Baby Potatoes X “Jingle Bell Rock”

Can you hear the jingling of the bells of Santa’s one-horse sleigh? No, because these are baby potatoes loaded with thyme and bacon, and make a great appetizer for your guests, or even a side dish.

7. White Chocolate and Clementine Yule Log X “White Christmas”

Every year, we hope against hope that the ground will be covered with snow just in time for Christmas. It brings magic to the holiday season, after all! But whether the snowflakes have fallen or not, listening to “White Christmas” and enjoying a slice of this white yule log, our days will still be merry and bright.

8. Angel Food Cake X “Gloria in Excelsis Deo (Angels We Have Heard on High)”

You’ll be in heaven with this super moist and airy cake topped with whipped cream and coconut frosting. All that’s left is to sing, “Glo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ria.”
