Our 20 Most Popular Cakes Over the Past 20 Years

The 20th anniversary of our French-language magazine sure is making us want to celebrate! And when one thinks of celebration, cake always comes to mind. Over the span of 20 years, we have created cakes of all flavours and colours. Here are the 20 most-viewed recipes on our website. All that remains is to choose the one that’ll hold our 20 brightly lit candles.

1. Moist Chocolate Cake in a Cup

The winning recipe in this list is our chocolate mug cake. It’s no surprise, as it can satisfy a sweet craving in minutes.

2. Carrot Cake (The Best)

Carrots, nutmeg and cinnamon form the perfect combination of flavours in this much-loved cake. The secret behind this recipe? A little orange juice in the batter.

3. The Best Best Chocolate Cake

We thought we had already reached the pinnacle of chocolate cakes with our Chocolate Cake (The Best) recipe, but no. This one has surely surpassed it. Maybe it’s the addition of coffee to the cake? Who knows!

4. Vanilla Cake (The Best)

This basic cake has obviously found a place on our list. Versatile, it’s most enjoyed when frosted with our best vanilla frosting, of course.

5. Cheesecake (The Best)

With its rich cream cheese filling and graham cracker crust, this classic cake has found a place in the hearts of our fans. A little sour cream added to the batter makes it even creamier.

6. Chocolate Yule Log

To the surprise of everyone at the table, you can bake a yule log cake…for a birthday! This chocolate roll cake with chocolate ganache and frosting is delicious even after the holiday season.

7. Mini Molten Chocolate Cakes

These tiny cakes are child’s play. We love the centre, oozing and overflowing with chocolate.

8. Queen Elizabeth Cake

This date cake with coconut and brown sugar icing is said to have been invented in Australia and served to Queen Elizabeth in the 1950s. A royal cake, crowned with success.

9. Traditional Fruitcakes

Even though this cake takes about a month to complete, it is among our favourites. The wait is definitely worth it.

10. Fruit Salad Cake

This cake is on our list because it reminds us of our grandmothers’ fruit salad cake. Pure nostalgia!

11. White Cake

This traditional vanilla cake is perfect for when you’re out of baking powder. It’s the chemical reaction of baking soda and white vinegar that causes the cake to rise. How practical!

12. Red Velvet Cake

This beautiful red cake with cream cheese whipped cream has won over our fans so much that it has also become a classic at Café RICARDO, where it remains on the menu.

13. Apple Crumble Cake

With a lightly spiced cinnamon batter, apple filling and sweet oatmeal crumble, this dessert has become a fall staple, but can be enjoyed in any season.

14. Black Forest Cake

We love the Black Forest cake with its chocolate genoise cake, whipped cream and morello cherry filling. This one is particularly impressive, as you can see all the goodies between each layer.

15. Lemon Poppy Seed Loaf (The Best)

This quick bread is as tasty for dessert as it is for breakfast with a cup of hot tea. A really versatile treat.

16. Angel Food Cake

Light as air, this cake will be devoured the moment it’s placed on the table!

17. Pumpkin Spiced Cake

Covered in white chocolate cream cheese frosting and topped with candied pecans, this pumpkin spiced cake is simply decadent.

18. Lemon Bundt Cake

With its pretty shape, this lemon cake already attracts attention. But the powdered sugar and lemon juice icing that runs down the sides makes it even more attractive.

19. Sublime Maple Cake

As its name suggests, this maple cake is quite something! The four layers of vanilla cake are interspersed with a delicious maple buttercream, much to the delight of those with a sweet tooth.

20. “No Dirty Dishes” Chocolate Cake

We had to carve out a spot in our Top 20 for this cake that’s prepared in the same pan it’s baked in. Because with fewer dishes to wash, we can spend more time enjoying our dessert!
