How to Grill Perfect Chicken Breasts on the Barbecue

When barbecuing chicken breasts, we tend to use a high temperature and direct heat, which makes them dry and tough. To get the most out of this cut of meat on the grill, we suggest a fail-safe four-step cooking method that’s easy to apply to all your chicken breast recipes—and no more sticking to the grill! Get ready for a summer of chicken perfection.

1. Preheat

To ensure perfect cooking every time, preheat half of the barbecue burners on high.

2. Oil

Oil the grill on the side that’s off. Place the chicken on this section of the barbecue for indirect cooking.

3. First side

If the skin is on, start cooking on this side. Close the lid and cook for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Seconde side

Flip the chicken and continue cooking, covered, for 5 to 10 minutes or until cooked through. And there you go: Your chicken breasts have never tasted so tender.

To test our method, why not try our Portuguese-style chicken breasts, which can be found in the meat section at IGA stores. Simply place them on the grill and sit and enjoy the warm weather while they cook. Isn’t life wonderful?
