Saving a Frozen or Stale Baguette

The thing we like most about baguettes is the crispy crust and moist crumb. But what can you do when the bread you bought yesterday is no longer fresh or comes straight out of the freezer? Here are some tricks to bring it back to life.

Put Your Leftovers in the Freezer

Don’t waste any leftover baguette: Wrap it in an airtight bag and keep it in the freezer to eat later.

Cook with Stale Bread

If the leftover piece of bread is stale because you forgot it on the counter, you can always use it for homemade croutons or breadcrumbs, or eat it with cheese fondue. Above all, don’t waste it by putting it in the compost.

Put It in the Oven

Whether your baguette is frozen or stale, simply run it quickly under water to moisten it and slip it in the oven at 400ºF (200°C) for 10 minutes. This foolproof method will soften the bread and also make it crispy again.
