Trending: New Veggies, Now Even More Flavourful

The hype for veggies that are out of the ordinary isn’t going away, and they can be grown at home. Here are new ones that are loaded with flavour, even before they reach your plates.

Did you ever imagine the baby that could be born from a union between a leek and a garlic clove? Neither did we, but Row 7 is a company that did it, creating a new vegetable known as Sweet Garleek. And this isn’t the only creation courtesy of this group of chefs, farmers and gardeners.

They’ve also reinvented the butternut squash, named honeypatch squash, that has an even softer and sweeter taste compared to the original. There’s also the koginut squash, a small pumpkin with a velvety texture and hazelnut flavour.

Row 7’s mission is to develop new varieties of fruits and vegetables whose flavour potential is multiplied. They use technology-assisted cross-pollination techniques, while maintaining the genetic heritage of the crop.

Products are geared towards both renowned restaurateurs and the general public, who can procure certain veggies and even seeds at row7seeds.com.
