Tequila reposado is aged from 2 to 12 months in oak barrels (reposado means “resting” in Spanish). The oak and caramel flavours pair well with the full-bodied taste of the ginger, but a tequila blanco (silver) also works well in this cocktail.
The original version of this cocktail is made with ginger ale. However, when this cocktail was created, ginger ale had a much more pronounced ginger flavour. We recommend ginger beer in this recipe as its slightly spicy taste will create a cocktail with a strong personality.
