This cocktail is perfect to add a bit of a kick to your evening! It owes its name to its bright red colour, given by cassis (blackcurrant) liqueur. It’s part of the mule family of cocktails, which always consist of ginger ale, citrus juice and liquor.

Tequila reposado is aged from 2 to 12 months in oak barrels (reposado means “resting” in Spanish). The oak and caramel flavours pair well with the full-bodied taste of the ginger, but a tequila blanco (silver) also works well in this cocktail.

The original version of this cocktail is made with ginger ale. However, when this cocktail was created, ginger ale had a much more pronounced ginger flavour. We recommend ginger beer in this recipe as its slightly spicy taste will create a cocktail with a strong personality.
