I like canned California tomatoes (Pastene brand) because it is a mixture of mashed and chopped tomatoes. It is already between a sauce or a soup in itself. If you can’t find it, you can use canned diced tomatoes. You will certainly have to increase the cooking time to get a nice thick consistency.
