Sambal oelek is a fresh chile pepper paste with salt and vinegar added. It is widely used in Asia. As for the harissa, it is also a chilli condiment, used in the Middle East and North Africa. It includes seasonings such as garlic, spices, mint, caraway and other spices. The flavor of both condiments is very different but equally "hot". Each has its fans.
