Ingredients
Citrus Syrup
1 cup (250 ml) sugar
1 cup (250 ml) water
2 long orange zests, removed with a peeler
Old-Fashioned
2 oz (60 ml) American whiskey (bourbon)
3/4 oz (25 ml) syrup citrus
2 or 3 dashes Angostura
1/2 oz (15 ml) water
Ice cubes
1 long zest or 1/2 slice orange
1 maraschino cherry
Preparation
Citrus Syrup
In a small saucepan, bring all the ingredients to a boil and simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Pour into a bowl. Refrigerate until the syrup has completely chilled. The citrus syrup will keep for about three months in the refrigerator.
Old-Fashioned
In a highball glass, pour the liquor, citrus syrup, Angostura and water. Stir with a spoon.
Fill the glass with ice cubes and garnish with the orange zest and maraschino cherry.
