4 Ways the Vegetable Peeler Can Bring Elegance to a Recipe

Your basic kitchen peeler can do so much more than just peel the skins off carrots and potatoes! To add a visual aesthetic to your dishes, desserts and cocktails, read on about how your peeler can help.

1. Chocolate curls

The perfect topping for anything from cakes to dessert cups, chocolate curls provide added flourish. To make them, hold your chocolate bar in one hand and use the other to press the peeler deep into the chocolate as you slide it down the side of the bar. Pro tip: keep the bar at room temperature!

2. Vegetable ribbons

If you want to thinly slice your veggies without the use of a mandoline, this is where your trusty peeler gets to shine. It works on zucchini, asparagus, cucumber and even carrots. Carefully slice your vegetables lengthwise and then use them in savoury tarts, salads, or simply as a side dish.

3. Parmesan shavings

Cheese definitely brings flavour to a recipe. Sprinkling some grated cheese onto a plate of pasta or a salad is fine, but using a peeler to create some Parmesan or other hard cheese shavings definitely makes for a more aesthetically pleasing effect.

4. Citrus peel

Whether it’s for a small bit of zest or a long, winding peel, the peeler is a great way to add colourful and attractive garnishes to your cocktails! Citrus peel also contains aromatic oils, so, for extra flavour, be sure to express it by either rubbing it along the rim of your glass or squeezing it over the drink before placing it in your glass.
