5 Ways to Use Salmon Leftovers

If, come garbage day, you find yourself tossing out plastic container after plastic container of dinner leftovers, know that it doesn’t have to be this way! To avoid food waste, it’s important to try and utilize your leftovers, but you don’t have to eat the same meal two days in a row. In this article, we show you how to take a few pieces of salmon and reinvent them into something new!

1. In a salad

If you want to elevate your leftover salmon, try tossing it into a salad for a protein kick. This particular recipe is a medley of crisp and vibrant veggies that are the perfect contrast to the flaky, tender salmon. And don’t forget to add a zesty dressing! It’s definitely a satisfying way to keep leftovers from being bland.

2. In a pasta dish

Looking for a quick and easy dinner idea that utilizes last night’s salmon leftovers? This savoury pasta recipe is a combination of the fish and pasta along with earthy shiitake mushrooms. Throw in the herby, garlicky cream sauce, and you’re left with a meal where the flavours are in perfect harmony.

3. In sushi

Craving sushi? All it takes is a very small amount of salmon to make these restaurant-worthy onigiri. The sushi filling consists of salmon, mayonnaise, avocado and green onion, and is then wrapped in sticky Calrose rice. The previous night’s dinner has certainly, unrecognizably, been transformed!

4. In a sandwich

Who doesn’t enjoy a good sandwich? It’s a tasty way to utilize your salmon leftovers; just make as many sandwiches as your amount of leftovers allows you to. With just a few other basic ingredients (mayo, celery, green onions, arugula) and your carby vessel (hot dog bun, naturally!), you’ve got next day’s lunch in the bag!

5. In a pie

Who doesn’t enjoy a hearty pot pie? It can be filled with almost anything and, yes, that includes fish. If you only have a few salmon leftovers, you can either whip up a couple of individual-sized pies or, if rolling out dough isn’t your thing, this crustless version is a quick and easy alternative, but no less delicious! The recipe does call for canned salmon, but you can easily use your salmon leftovers in its stead.
