What to Do with Leftover Parmesan Rinds

Parmesan rinds, often overlooked, conceal some unsuspected culinary potential. Much more than mere remnants, these cheese ends contain a wealth of flavour and can be reused in multiple creative ways when cooking. Here are three tips for using them without wasting a thing.

1. Add flavour

Whether in a soup or spaghetti sauce, simmering the Parmesan rinds will impart a salty flavour and a creamy texture to your recipe. Remove what remains of the rind before serving.

2. Flavour an oil

If you enjoy olive oil and cheese, the idea of combining the two is entirely appropriate. Add the Parmesan rind to a container filled with oil, and leave it in the refrigerator for a few days at most. Then you can use it to dip bread in for a tasty appetizer.

3. Add to a risotto

Make this Italian dish even richer by adding the rind halfway through cooking. Let it simmer while pouring in the broth, stirring continuously. Remove the rind before serving, for that extra cheesy flavour.
