8 Cafeteria Foods the RICARDO Staff is Nostalgic For

Whether it’s from elementary or high school, college or university, we all likely occasionally wax nostalgic about a particular food we enjoyed and miss from our school days. In honour of the back-to-school season, we asked our colleagues about this subject; read below for what they had to say.

1. Oatmeal Cookies

“A cafeteria icon? It’s definitely oatmeal cookies! With their chewy centres and crispy edges, they were irresistible. I still often dream about them!” – Maude, Content and Creative Director

2. Pizza

“In high school, meat pizza was a lunch that everyone awaited and was excited for! We often made notes in our planners of the more interesting cafeteria meals to come.” – Marika, Social Media and Digital Content Specialist

3. Breakfast Club Sandwiches

“During college, breakfast club sandwiches with egg, bacon and cheese became my go-to meal. Prior to then, I had only enjoyed the usual chicken version with bacon, so my world was blown completely open, and I would purchase it regularly at the cafeteria on those days of early morning classes!” – Vicki, Multiplatform Editor

4. Soup

“My absolute favourite was the price: soup, a small bun, main dish and dessert…for $3.65! I was especially happy when broccoli soup was on the menu.” – Marie-Pier, Senior Editor

5. Pasta

“The pasta bar was always calling to me. I made the most horrible combinations, but they were extremely comforting regardless.” – Alexandre, Social Media and Digital Content Strategist

6. Lasagna and Caesar salad

“Many cafeteria classics come to mind, but the ones that I remember most were lasagna with Caesar salad. Every two weeks, I just had to have it! And I always enjoyed it with pudding cake for dessert!” – Stéphanie, Multiplatform Designer

7. Muffins

“While I was finishing up my Bachelor’s degree, my boyfriend would always get me a raspberry muffin from the cafeteria (with a coffee, of course). It was a great motivator between submitting projects, taking exams and working at RICARDO. The raspberry muffins: my secret to good grades, nothing less!” – Clodine, Optimization Coordinator

8. Hazelnut coffee

“In college and university cafeterias, the selection of flavoured coffees (hazelnut, French vanilla) was a big draw!” – Cristine, Senior Art Director
