15 Fall Recipes That the RICARDO Team Can’t Wait to Cook

When temperatures start to drop and the days get shorter, we’re very happy to go back to the warmth of our homes and prepare satisfying meals that will bring smiles around the table. Here are 15 comforting recipes that our colleagues at RICARDO love to cook in the fall.

1. Beef Bourguignon (The Best)

“Beef bourguignon is the dish I just can’t wait to cook on the early cold days,” says Gaëlle, Web Content Project Manager. And we have to agree with her because, when it comes to comfort, this classic French dish will always make a great impression.

2. Cottage Stew

For Clodine, a Content Optimization Coordinator, the recipe that calls to her most is this version of a cottage stew. Instead of shortcrust pastry, a layer of potato slices sprinkled with tomato juice covers the meat mixture. A super comforting dish that’s so easy to make.

3. Classic Chili

And what about Anouk’s favourite dish? Chili is it, without hesitation. Our Senior Account Manager, Creative Solutions even knows the recipe by heart! For this reason, she likes adding some variations, replacing beef with pork, for example, or cooking the chili in the slow cooker.

4. Quinoa and Cheddar Cheese Stuffed Squash

With a touch of harissa, strong cheddar and the crunchy texture of peanuts, this recipe is Julie’s favourite. Our Digital Director just loves this dish that’s super simple to cook. All excellent reasons that led her to add it to the “For Entertaining” file in her My RICARDO account.

5. Clam Chowder with Grated Vegetables

According to Michèle, Multiplatform Designer, there’s nothing better than a simple, savoury chowder to make you feel like you’re on vacation “by the ocean, with the sea breeze on your face,” even in the fall.

6. Osso Buco

“At home,” says Andrée-Ann, RH Marketing Specialist, “our kids (aged 4, 8 and 15) ask for osso buco. When I find a sale on that cut of meat (and in family value packs), I freeze it and make it on rainy weekends. It’s so comforting!”

7. Cacciatore Lasagna

Lasagna possibly sits near the top—if not at the top—of the list of decadent, comforting dishes. Martine, our Project Coordinator, loves cooking this recipe that differs from the classic version. Not least because she can make it in advance and freeze it! This makes it ideal for entertaining.

8. Pork Meatballs with Squash in a Cream Sauce

“I love squash,” admits Marie-Eve, our Project Manager - Advertising Sales. “It’s such a delicious and versatile vegetable!” In this fall recipe, the melt-in-your-mouth flesh of the butternut squash blends beautifully with extra-tender pork meatballs.

9. Swedish Meatballs

Making Swedish meatballs—a lot of meatballs!—and freezing them, that’s what’s on the program this fall for Mélissa, a Project Manager - Advertising Sales. “Kids love them, they’re quick to make and super delicious with pasta, vegetables, rice, mashed potatoes, you name it! A fantastic helper for busy parents.”

10. Childhood Meatballs

Yep, meatballs are definitely in vogue during the colourful season. This recipe is “one of the few that have unanimous approval with my bunch of people,” confesses Marie-Lise, a Senior Product Manager. Serve them coated in a generous tomato sauce and embrace your childhood memories!

11. Squash Gnocchi with a Creamy Herb Sauce

Between chili and her granny’s braised beef, Juliette’s heart could never choose. But for our Communications and Marketing Project Manager, if she had to settle on a dish that showcases a seasonal vegetable, well, it would be this recipe for squash gnocchi served with a creamy herb sauce.

12. Pumpkin Bread

For Charline-Ève, Multiplatform Editor, this spiced bread generously sprinkled with pumpkin seeds represents the height of comfort food. “I serve it with tea and forget the bad weather outside.” Perfect to avoid wasting any part of your pumpkin once Halloween is over!

13. Pork Meatballs with Roasted Peppers and Barbecue Sauce

“I love making this recipe on autumnal Sundays,” says our Product Manager Béatrice. “You can also make a batch of meatballs and freeze them!” Cooked with peppers in a barbecue sauce, this version is delicious served with mashed potatoes or a green salad.

14. Spaghetti Sauce (The Best)

For Saralee, Corporate Sales Representative, “the ultimate comfort is a gratiné spaghetti served with The Best spag sauce I’ve ever made, starring the tomatoes I canned in the fall.” This recipe can also be frozen, so don’t hesitate to double or even triple the quantities and stock up.

15. Mushroom and Pancetta Risotto

Mushroom, tomato, asparagus, green peas, squash: A quick visit to our website is sufficient to realize that there are several ways of cooking risotto. For Nathalie, our Communications and Marketing Vice-President, it’s the quintessential comfort food in the fall.
